The Story
“Kleinood Farm has a maximum-hands-per-bottle philosophy.“
Kleinood is a small family farm with just ten hectares are devoted to vines. The terroir dictated Syrah as the variety of choice, with a hectare each of Viognier, Rousanne and Mouvèrdre, initially for blending purposes, to further underpin the vision and desire to make the best Northern Rhône style Syrah the farm could produce.
Each of the 23 half-hectare vineyard blocks on the farm is managed as a separate unit. The grapes from each unit are looked after, irrigated, harvested, crushed, fermented and matured in wood separately. Only at blending time do we decide which wine is good enough, with the final blend comprising all the different components which form the building blocks for the Tamboerskloof Syrah.
The distinctive, yet characteristically understated, Tamboerskloof wine labels are hand printed with an antique wooden press on handmade paper that is torn to size by hand and stuck onto each individual bottle by hand.
“Our wines do not reflect what we have done to it,
but express the complexity of their origin.”
