Description

Kleinood Farm presents:

Tamboerskloof (pierewaaiers)

pierewaaiers = dandies

This is a collection of rare Tamboerskloof wines inspired by the exceptional grapes that cross our path.

All the dandies are made in the Kleinood winery in the Kleinood way, but only occasionally, when the grapes insist, and in very small quantities.

Before release, each bottle is labelled by hand and each cork sealed with wax. Each bottle is nattily dressed in a recycled paper bag and tied at the top with a thinly cut repurposed tyre tube – pretty dandy.

“The charm of these wines lies in the quality of the grapes,
the soul of the places that they come from,
and the care of the hands that create them.”

Kleinood Tamboerskloof Mourvèdre
(meevaller)
2025

meevaller = money from home, a windfall

From the small patch of Mourvèdre vines on Kleinood Farm, the Tamboerskloof Syrah takes its share. Although we intended to use these grapes for blending purposes only, what remained of this vintage was so good, that we broke our own rules to make 3 barrels of (meevaller).

In The Vineyard

The Mourvèdre vines on Kleinood Farm were planted in 2001. On 12, 13 and 14 March 2025, bunches were picked by hand in small pockets at a balling of 22.6. In lug boxes, weighing roughly 17kg each, they were taken to the Kleinood winery.

In The Winery

Upon arrival, the grapes were sorted by hand. The very best bunches were kept whole (40%), and the remaining ones de-stemmed, after which the individual berries were re-sorted and crushed slightly. Using gravity, these precious Mourvèdre bunches and berries were transported to an open square stainless-steel tank. Here they fermented, together, at 25°C and left for 14 days for maceration. We filled 3 French oak barrels, where the wine matured for 9 months. On 15 December 2025 we bottled the (meevaller), after which it spent half a year aging in our cool dark cellar.

In The Bottle

This 100% Mourvèdre has a vibrant translucent garnet hue and enticing bouquet of ripe forest berries, suggesting a light bodied, even frivolous, wine. However, the wood, leather and spice notes allude to something more. With the bright entry showing dark plums and fynbos, the wine moves to substantial body on the mid-pallet with hints of oak, clove and pepper. The finish lingers with refined and beautifully poised fruit and tobacco accents.
