Another double gold for de Boerin!

De-Boerin

The Kleinood 2011 de Boerin olive oil won double gold at the South African Olive’s 2011 Olive Awards. Of the 68 entries, Kleinood’s extra virgin olive oil was one of only six oils awarded double gold. What makes the achievement so special is that it’s the second year in a row that Kleinood de Boerin olive oil has received double gold.

The de Boerin extra virgin olive oil is bottled on Kleinood in 500ml and is available from the farm and selected outlets.

Kleinood, Stellenbosch, Zuid-Afrika

South African Gems

Vinography

VINOGRAPHY- A WINE BLOG | JUNE 2010

Light greenish gold in the glass, this wine smells of unripe peaches, orange peel, and wet stones. In the mouth it is bright and zingy with great acidity and nice flavors of unripe peach, mandarin oranges, and lemon zest that linger through a long clean finish. The wine lacks the characteristic thick unctuousness of Viognier, which is one of the reasons I like it.

What We Drank

New-York-Cork-Report-

New York Cork Report | March 2010

Fortunately, the wine didn’t disappoint. The nose is quite subtle at first showing just a little meaty brett action (I’m realizing I’m going to have to review a brett-free wine next time to avoid perpetuating a stereotype!), cherry and baked plum, and some nice floral hibiscus despite an earthy kalamata olive thing happening. Bright cherry/raspberry flavors on the midpalate gave it a down-to-earth, controlled finish.

The whole thing has been crafted to look accidental. It’s a nod from the past, and I bet it stands out on the shelf next to all the frilliness. It reminds me a bit of Muji, the brandless brand.

Close your eyes and imagine your dream garden… A fruit orchard that doubles as an enclosure for a brood of chickens. A colourful rose garden where layer upon layer of old-fashioned fragrances subtly perfume the air. A vegetable patch yielding everything from tomatoes, limes and aubergines to herbs and blossoming zucchini – all protected from pests by a voracious resident duck. And all this earthy abundance based on a philosophy of recycling, composting and excluding harmful pesticides and poisons.

De Boerin Extra Virgin Olive Oil Released

De-Boerin

Kleinood is proud to announce the release of de Boerin extra virgin olive oil – an oil with a strength and generosity that reflects the goodness of our soil and the sun, and the great care that goes into its making.

Tasting notes: a nose of green olives and mown hay; ample full and silky in the mouth; strong and grassy with hints of artichoke and a peppery aftertaste.
Excellent with crostini, fresh summer salads, vegetables and poultry.
